This Train is my Life

'Distant lights from the wrong side of the tracks'
The wrong side of the tracks is a term meaning someone who comes from a bad or less prosperous part of town. The phrase arose because train tracks would often mark neighbourhood boundaries. It was often employed as a dog whistle for parts of town where black people lived.

The entire album listing is included for completeness, but only songs with a link have explanations.

  1. Hi, does anyone know what the line 'You & I are movie rich' means?

  2. I'd always interpreted that to perhaps mean: "We are wealthy as Film Stars..."?

    1. I took it as they watched A LOT of movies on those long train rides. Thus they are "movie rich."

  3. I would guess that it means we live our lives vicariously through movies as a means of escaping the drudgery of our ‘normal’ lives.
The song is obviously a metaphor for life as a journey but with commuter overtones so my guess seems to have meaning within the overall context.
