'But he who dies with the most toys is still dead'
The phrase came from the footer of an email that h's partner, Linette, received.

  1. "He who dies with most toys dies anyway".

Presumably "he with most toys" is the richest person, so that would mean something like "wealth isn't everything; rich people die just as poor people do"

The quotation must be a spin on the older and more familiar saying "He who dies with the most toys wins," which is similarly a way of ridiculing people who make accumulation of wealth and possessions (yachts, planes, jewelry, sports teams, real estate) their chief goal in life and pursue it compulsively.
