This Strange Engine (WFftO version)

Introduction: For the version of This Strange Engine on the With Friends from the Orchestra album, an additional line was added. The line had long been included on the lyric sheets, but wasn't actually in the song.

"Chase the moon between the buildings, Running as fast as I could run"
Appearing before the line "Send to me the ghosts of Christmas", these lines were always intended to be included in the song.
This section of the song is about memories of having attended choir practice after school was over for the day, and consequently going home alone in the dark.

When it came to recording the Friends album, h said to producer Mike Hunter that he'd like to include the line and Mike was able to manipulate the recording to make room for it. It then made life difficult for the band playing it live, who had to remember to include the extra bars.

With Friends from the Orchestra - Introduction

Introduction: With Friends from the Orchestra is the nineteenth Marillion album, the fifteenth with Steve Hogarth.

It was announced on 30th September 2019 in a news article titled We have a confession to make in which the band announced that they had secretly recorded an album that would come out in mid October, followed by a short European tour.

The album contained rearrangements of Marillion songs, most of which had featured on the preceding orchestra tour, recorded at Real World Studios with the following additional musicians:

In Praise of Folly (string quartet):

Margaret Hermant - Violin
Maia Frankowski - Violin
Nicole Miller - Viola
Annemie Osborne - Cello

Flute - Emma Halnan
French Horn - Sam Morris

As a consequence of this, there are no explanations for any of the songs on the album, because if there are, they're already on the relevant album's pages.

Except one, because sneakily, they added a lyric to This Strange Engine.
